MMUF fellow Erika López García, who graduated this year from Brown University, was recently profiled in the Brown Alumni Magazine. Erika, who concentrated in geological sciences as an undergraduate, had her first national scholarly exposure this April when the scientific journal Icarus published the article "Topographic Constraints on the Origin of the Equatorial Ridge on Iapetus," of which she was the lead author.

The honors thesis research of MMUF Fellow Christopher-Marcus Gibson was recently featured in the Huffington Post's Thesis Project blog, which provides a popular web forum for the academic work of college undergraduates.

We are delighted to announce that MMUF Brian Johnson, who was originally selected as an MMUF fellow as an undergraduate at Johnson C. Smith University, has been chosen by Tuskegee University as its seventh president.

MMUF PhD Geraldo Cadava (Dartmouth '04) has been awarded the Organization of American Historians' Frederick Jackson Turner Award for 2014 for his first book, Common Ground: The Making of the Sunbelt Borderland (published last year by Harvard University Press). The OAH awards the Turner Award to first books published by scholars of American history.

MMUF PhD Lillian Guerra (Dartmouth '92) has received one of 178 fellowships awarded by the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation for 2014. Dr. Guerra, who is Professor of Cuban and Caribbean History at the University of Florida, was selected as an MMUF fellow at Dartmouth College and earned her PhD in history from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2000, following which she taught at Bates College and Yale University.

MMUF is the subject of a featured article published today in the online and print editions of  Diverse Issues in Higher Education. The article profiles three MMUF PhDs - Sean Decatur, Ben Vinson and Stephen Pitti - who are now in high-level administrative or faculty positions at their institutions, and who discuss the importance of MMUF in opening up the paths that led them to their current positions.
